Nobody enjoys the process of shifting. All the packing, unpacking and heavy lifting involved, make it a burdensome task. Even making preparations to move can be a hassle, for instance in having to look for boxes to pack your belongings into. Buying brand new boxes is quite a waste of money, considering that you are only going to need them to transport your stuff. The better, more economical option would be to get used moving boxes. Here are some ideas on where you can find them.

A good place to start the search would be at your local supermarket. These stores tend to receive their products packed in boxes, so there is bound to be a vast supply waiting to be reused. You can ask the store manager or make arrangements with the delivery staff to provide you with some.

Electrical goods outlets are another possible source. These stores may have boxes left over from display pieces or damaged products. If you are up for a bit of excitement, you can also consider a bout of dumpster diving. Digging through the trash is not as nasty as it seems; the recyclables such as cardboard boxes are usually kept separately from the rest of the rubbish.

If you are enlisting the services of a moving company, you might be able to get a cheaper rate through them. Alternatively, there are websites that sell both new and old moving boxes. These can be purchased individually or at a discount if you buy them as a set. Some innovative websites also allow you to get them for free, by providing you with a list of people in your area who want to get rid of their boxes.

Recycling plants take in items like plastic bottles, drink cans and cardboard boxes. As such, this would be a good place to look for used moving boxes. Call up your local recycling plant to see if they have any to spare, either for free or for a small fee.

While you are out box hunting, be sure to check for possible sources close to you. This includes family, friends and neighbors who might have some to spare. You could also check with the shipping department at your office or simply take empty boxes that are going to be thrown away, from the photocopying room or storage room. Make sure you clear it with your boss first though.

When planning your move, a good idea would be to pack goods that you use infrequently in newer boxes. This could include, Christmas ornaments and fine dining pieces. Alternatively, you could pack these items that are usually stored away, in plastic boxes. This investment is worthwhile as plastic boxes are durable and will definitely keep your belongings safe.

It is also important to keep your refrigerator clean and sanitary. Here are some quick and easy tips that can help you keep your fridge clean and orderly.

Get rid of the clutter. The night prior to trash collection is a great time to check the fridge for rotten or molding food. Get rid of expired leftovers every week to keep the fridge spacious and cool.

After clearing away items that need to be discarded, wipe down the areas on the shelves and doors were the old food items once stood. Don’t forget to wash out empty plastic or glass containers and recycle the ones that you will not reuse.

Use a cleaner that kills germs to wipe spots and stains that appear on the shelves right away. You should also wipe the bottoms of bottles, jar or other containers before putting them away to avoid the spread of germs into your fridge.

The sooner you seal and store food that is left over from a meal or a snack, the better. This will limit the opportunity for bacteria to grow and spread onto your food. Using airtight containers will help prevent oxygen from encouraging the growth of germs as well.

Divide you refrigerated items by food group. For example, keep your cheese in a different drawer than your fruit, and put your meat in a different area than your vegetables.

Pack groups of little items in small plastic bins for quick and easy access. That way you will know exactly where to look when you are cooking a quick dinner.

Condiments, jams, soft drinks and dressing can be stored on the shelves of the refrigerator door. Since this area does not get as cold as the bottom shelf or the bottom of the fridge, it is better to place items that do not spoil as easily on the door. Put things that spoil more readily in the cooler areas of the fridge to preserve them.

If you have the space, consider using a spare refrigerator. With the additional room, you can stock up on drinks for parties or just to make space in your main fridge for food items. You can keep unopened drinks cold and quickly replace emptied bottles in the main fridge, and have plenty of extra beverages available for when company arrives.

If it is at all possible, do not write down what needs to be remembered on a loose piece of paper. The intent and the effort is great but the odds are, that little piece of paper gets misplaced.

Next, evaluate everything you do. Is there anything that can be let go, because as the old saying goes, burning the candle at both ends will eventually result with no candle left; this can mean a breakdown or becoming vulnerable to illnesses.

The dust must settle from time-to-time. It is the only way to see more clearly. Time to get organized!

Define A Higher Power That Is Kind

When I first started going to 12 step meetings a little over 20+ years ago, I was told that I could redefine my God. I was told that I was able to make him anything that I wanted to.

This was a great thing to discover as at that time in my life, the diety of my childhood wasn’t very nice.

I won’t allege that I was taught about a punishing God. But, I will say what I was taught.

Most of this ‘education’ included matters related to self esteem and self confidence.

So, when I learned that my God could be redefined, it was a great relief. I was allowed to define my God as very Kind and that cared for me no matter what. I heard a person say that his God “knew what I was doing and loved me while I did it”.

I believe that a lot of us have learned “to act as if God is watching, because he is”. And, if this was the case, I was in bad trouble because of some of the things I had done while growing up.

Now that I did not have to worry about being cast into the “depths of Hell” for what I had done in my youth, I could start living a good life.

So, if you have a God that is not Kind, the best thing for you to do is to sit down and create a “designer God”.

I do not intend to be flippant about this but you need to have a God that is loving if you are going to live a comfortable life.

We do not need to be “looking over our shoulder” to make sure that our “punishing God” is not breathing down our neck.

Life is too short to be lived running from a God of our parents. It is time to define a God for you that is caring and loving.

I have heard it said that our only problem in life is our “perceived separation from God”. That separation is very easy to imagine if the God of your understanding is punishing and mean.

A Simple But Powerful Classroom Management Strategy To Improve Children’s Behaviour

Not often I see something in schools that I agree with, but today was the day…

When on my first teaching practice during teacher training I was very surprised to see the difference in class layout… so much change since the last time I’d been in a primary classroom… No rows of desks but children sitting around tables in groups, facing each other…

So, why the changes?

I never really found out the answer to that question and I’ve never came even close to being convinced that anything about his arrangement was of any benefit to anyone… I’ve often questioned who thought it up in the first place and what they werethinking of. Even the best behaved children will be tempted/ or even encouraged to chatter and not concentrate properly on their lessons. I have never set any of my classrooms in groups. But teachers I’ve spoken to appear to be against making any changes in their classroom layout – they’re so reluctant to implement something that can alleviate many of children’s problem behaviours.

One excuse for the ’sitting round tables’ arrangement is so the children can take part in group work…

Research shows that well over 90% of teachers making this claim never involve children in genuine group work. Researchers claim the grouped layout creates an ideal environment for chatting and behaving inappropriately rather than focusing on their work.

It can also be seen that research shows young children demonstrating problem behaviour work in class for double the time when set in rows as opposed to the grouped layout.

What did I see in a school that impressed me then?

The teacher had become concerned at the rise in unacceptable behaviour had taken advice and re-arranged her class in rows.

The outcome?

There were amazing changes and the teacher couldn’t believe the difference in noise levels, children’s focus and concentration and the standard of work being produced in class. Coupled with this, the children said they enjoyed the new layout and having the means to behave badly taken away.

Try it and see improvements straight away… My well proven behaviour management techniques sort out the most extreme and challenging behaviour but the simple idea of changing classroom layout can be implemented in such a short time and you don’t have to practise anything new. It couldn’t be more simple…

People are incredibly mobile these days. Over the course of a lifespan, somebody may shift houses on no less than 2 or 3 instances. This results in countless sacrificed friendships and broken off relationships as people lose touch with the other person. On the plus side, electronic mail now makes it less complicated for men and women to keep in friends with the other person. But what if you would like to reconnect with an old pal or partner but you do not know their e mail address? What does one do now? Thankfully, there are techniques to find someones e mail address .

First, you should try the most obvious sources – mutual friends and acquaintances. Try and get in touch with them and ask if they have the person’s email. Or if you used to have this person’s email but you lost it, try looking at your old emails to see if you still have some correspondence from that person that would contain an email address. You might also still have this person’s calling card.

If the above techniques don’t work, then expand your research. If you went to school together, then you can try searching for a student index on the school’s website. Or if you are aware of where the person is employed or used to work you can look at searching that company’s website. If the person you want to search for is a specialist, there might be specific e-mail directories you can look at that focus on particular groups of people.

You can even try getting in touch with this person through online community websites he or she may have signed up with. The website won’t provide you with the e-mail address, but they will direct your e-mail to the person concerned if they are an associate. If you need to find out if they are a member of a specific Web 2.0 website, then you can use search engines like Google that explore these websites.

Third, you can try reverse e mail search web sites. All you are required to do is to input in that person’s first and last name and the web page will furnish an e mail address assuming that person is in their data store. Or if you’re agreeable to spending some money, you can sign up to to the web page or pay a small charge so that you can acquire more facts about the people other than their e mail address, including what registrations they’ve made on the web and if they are eligible for any specialized licenses.

Ultimately, you can try browsing for the person on search engines like Yahoo. This is something of a last resort given that the search pages are likely to give you heaps of hits. If that transpires then you can try confining the search by putting information like their middle name, where they were born and other appropriate data in the input parameters. Or you can have a go at using their name then including common e-mail addresses at the end.

If after using the above strategies you still fail to locate someones e mail address, then conceivably the person either has no e mail or simply won’t want their address to be readily obtainable. Bear in mind that people have to sign-up their e mail address with a open e mail listing before they might be located. Most Internet service companies do not register the e mail addresses of their purchasers in open directories. So perhaps you need to simply respect this person’s wish to remain private.

Unclutter your Wallet

Do you have a wallet that is overflowing with stuff? Are you constantly frustrated that you can’t find what you need because there are receipts, cards, or misc notes crowding the important things? The following are some simple suggestions to get your wallet organized and keep it organized once and for all. You will learn what to have in your wallet and what NOT to have in your wallet, how you can be ready in the event of an emergency, and important information on how to protect yourself.

Items that SHOULD be in your wallet

* Gift Cards – These should be treated like cash and should be kept with your cash. Up to 30% of gift cards are never redeemed because they are lost.

* Credit Cards – Only the credit cards you frequently use should be kept with you. If there are cards that you no longer use, they should be kept in an envelope in your safe deposit box or they should be shredded.

* Driver’s License or ID

* Emergency Contact Card – On a piece of paper that is approximately business card size, type the names and numbers of two different people you would like someone to contact if there were an emergency. After laminating it, keep it behind your ID or Drivers’ license. The police and/or hospital would then know whom to call if you were in an accident.

* Medical Insurance Card – Not completely necessary but can be helpful in the case of an emergency or accident.

* Auto Insurance Card – It can be helpful to keep a copy of your insurance card in your wallet if you own and operate a vehicle. Typically, insurance companies will send you an extra one. If your car is stolen or if you are in an accident and can’t get at the one in the glove box, this would be helpful.

TIP: You should photocopy everything in your wallet. Keep copies of the front and back of all your credit cards. Copies should be kept in your safe deposit box. You will, then, know exactly what you lost and whom you need to call if your wallet is lost or stolen.

Items that should NOT be in your wallet

* Business Cards – You could keep a couple of your own business cards in your wallet. But, as you collect business cards of other people, either enter them into your address book and toss them, or place them in a file.

* Receipts – When you get home from shopping, place your receipts into a simple and efficient filing system. I explain how to set-up a super fast self-cleansing filing system in my Fast-Filing Method program.

* Misc Notes & Papers – Rather than writing on napkins and misc. scraps of paper and shoving them into your wallet, use a more effective system for organizing your information.
