Caravan Insurance; Why Is It An Important Consideration?

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Chester Cooke was excited by the prospect of buying a caravan on the banks of the River Avon, not far from Stratford, on a professionally run, well maintained and gorgeous site with lots of amenities. Being a diligent kind of chap, he looked into all of the potential issues, after all you can’t be too careful with the thick end of twenty grand plus annual service charges, which didn’t include insurance for some reason.

He phoned his broker and asked about caravan insurance who told him that there shouldn’t be any problem and the broker would be delighted to give Chester a quote. Chester gave the broker details about the type, value and size of the caravan and where it would be situated.

A few minutes later, the broker called Chester back and said that unfortunately he was not able to find any insurance companies that would offer him insurance, not because of the caravan itself, or even the site that he had chosen, but it was to do with the exact spot that he had chosen. It was right on the bank of river Avon, which had flooded the year before, causing a massive number of insurance claims on the grounds of water damaged property, and so now insurers were very wary about insuring caravans that were right on the water’s edge. This meant that if Chester really wanted the caravan, and he wanted it right there, it would have to be at his own risk.

This was deal breaking news. It was highly likely that the Avon would flood again at sometime in the future and Chester couldn’t afford to take on a caravan without insurance. He asked his broker about these other “normal criteria” of caravan sites that he should look for if he was going ahead with his plan to buy a caravan.

A registered CaSSOA site is ideal for caravan insurance providers. The reason for this is that these sites have security standards. Another thing to look for in a caravan site is a secure boundary like a fence or a tall, thick bush running around the boundaries of the site. If the caravan is to be placed in a less formal location, such as a farm, then the caravan should have its own compound and it own defined perimeter. Some insurance providers insist that a caravan site must have a certain number of caravans placed there before they will insure any, safety in numbers as it were.

Chester hadn’t really though that the insurance would play such an important part in the buying of his caravan. He was just appreciative of his knowledgeable broker who could steer him in the right direction, after all, he just wanted to enjoy his caravan and the insurance was just to take to worry out of owning one.

Caravan insurance is one of the most important factors to take into consideration when considering purchasing a caravan. Top Notch Cruises

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

If you enjoy travelling and seeing new destinations, I advocate a cruise. I have cruised the Mediterranean and the Baltic and my next cruise will be a Caribbean cruise. I am really looking forward to it. If you have never been on a cruise, start saving up now, because it is luxury like you have never imagined before.

Never having been on a Caribbean cruise before, I do not know how much the different Caribbean islands differ from one another, so I do not know how varied that cruise would be. However, I have cruised the Med and the Baltic and woken up to a different country every day and in both of those seas and every country is very different from its neighbours.

On our Baltic cruise we left from Southampton and cruised to Gothenburg in Sweden. From there we went to Helsinki and Leningrad (in those days). On the way back, we called into Copenhagen and the Tivoli Gardens. None of those countries was in any way similar to another or even Britain.

Similarly, my Mediterranean cruise left from Minorca in north eastern Spain going east to Sardinia and then north along the southern coast of Europe. Italy, France and Spain. The second week of the cruise left Minorca again and went to Sicily and then south along the northern coast of Africa including Malta.

The luxury on a cruise is practically indescribable to someone who has never been on a cruise. There is no standard higher than five stars, but the cruises I have been on offered superior levels of luxury than any five star hotels I have stayed in anywhere in the world.

Food and shore trips play a major part of cruising. The food is top notch with no mistake. Breakfast on a cruise liner is better than most Americans and most Europeans have for dinner. Whatever you want from prawns to steak, from exotic fruit to porridge. Lunch and dinner are even more sumptuous.

Shore excursions are well organized too. They include a ferry from the cruise liner to the land and then a coach trip by a local firm to the destination, which could be an historical site or a shopping mall. Most cruisers go on these trips, but some would rather stay on board and take advantage of the lower number of passengers and the free food.

I went on every shore excursion and thoroughly enjoyed each one. The excursions are usually pricey though, but you are part of a trapped audience, so what can you expect?

I thoroughly recommend a cruise holiday to any and every one. You should go at least once in your life, but do not leave it until late in your life because you will want to go again.

How To Select The Best Tent For Your Camping Vacation

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

A necessary outdoor piece of equipment is your tent, ones outdoor camping experience is usually mainly determined by the tent quality which you decide on. This is why a large selection of tents are available for you to choose from.

The very first as well as simplest method so as narrow ones tent options should be to decide the actual tent dimensions that you require.

Tents will be manufactured to house a certain amount of people. So that a solo backpacker will be searching for a tent that is smaller considerably different from family campers which need a larger and roomier tent.

A lot of tents will be labeled with a description in addition to their capacity which indicates the number of individuals the tent can easily hold.

To ensure that if you actually do not intent on having a assortment of tents in numerous capacity or sizes, it’s sensible that you establish the largest amount of individuals you think may sleep altogether in the tent.

In the event you ordinarily backpack along with a companion, but this summer you are going solo, then it is wise to select a “two-person” tent.

Mainly, there are four tent components namely the poles, tent body, rain fly and the tarp which is some sort of footprint or ground cloth to increase your tent’s floor life.

Apart from these basic components, here are some tips in choosing the best tent for you:

1. Give some thought to the needs you have. Recognize your own specific camping needs, for instance exactly where do you mostly go camping, at what season, are you backpacking? And just how many are you. Each one of these can give you a definite idea of what type of tent you will want.

2. Set your price range. When you set aside a budget before you decide to go looking for any tent, most probably, you will not overspend.

3. Tent weight and size. How many people will be sleeping within the actual tent? The size of your tent will not really matter should you go “car camping”; but, if you intend of going backpacking, then think about a “light-weight” tent.

4. Tent features. Today, the actual tent manufacturers give loads of features for their tents.

Mesh panels allow the breeze go in your tent at the same time keeping the mosquitoes and bugs out, “shock-corded” tent poles permit speedy setup, waterproof and fire resistant for safety, a rain fly for added rain protection, and so on.

Ensure that you choose the tent which best caters to your all of your basic requirements.

5. Make sure you select a durable fabric tent. It will cost you more money, nonetheless this definitely is an area well worth spending extra money.

6. Pick the right tent color. Examine how the color of the tent transfers light well in to its interior. Particular colours generate a lighter inside, while others create a cave like and dreary ambiance.

Light colors, take note would be best in the course of summer camping, because they usually are cooler whilst dark colours will absorb in solar energy so that they are excellent during camping in cold weather conditions.

7. Take a look at the actual tent’s coating. Remember you need to see a waterproof and shiny coating inside the floor and rain fly. If this is not visible or perhaps you can not feel this on the tent’s fabric, then it is not thick enough to stand up to heavy use.

8. Be aware that your tent requirements when camping in the summer will be very much different in comparison to camping in the snow.

A large amount of tents available on the market have got weather ratings. Just be sure you obtain a tent specifically made for a particular weather condition or even time of year that you will be out camping.

9. Tent manufacturers. A variety of tent manufacturers have got their own unique design plus name. Some are identified to make low priced tents, while others are well known to make good quality but costly tents.

Well known tent makers are Coleman, Wenger, Eddie Bauer along with Greatland Tents. Choose a tent manufacturer which has trusted for years.

In the forest or perhaps wilderness especially, the wrong camping gear won’t kill you, but it could truly send you packing to a motel along with regret having planned camping.

For the well-planned and also enjoyable camping family vacation, spend some time when you get your tent.

Keep in mind, it’ll be your home for a few days or weeks. Having the correct tent will certainly keep you comfortable as well as warm especially upon rainy plus cold nights.

A camp tailored to the needs of of children who are going for the first time has been created. Swift Nature Camp’s directors, Jeff and Lonnie Lorenz, After listening for years to parents and children, have created a special 12 day program specific to meet the needs of all new campers and their parents.

AFirst Time At Summer Camp program is offered near Minong, Wisconsin at the Swift Nature Camp. Two of our dedicated trained staff live in each cabin of 6 camper. We know this might be your child’s first time away from home. It’s so important that every camper feels comfortable in knowing that a staff member is near at all times. Feeling special is what every child needs and deserves, that’s our first priority. We foster the sense that camp is there for the kids and exists only for their benefit.

Our staff studies each camper personal profile. We look for specific individual needs as we learn about each child and gain awareness of their wants, needs and fears. If any camper has medical circumstances or special needs these will discussed by the staff in confidence with the camp nurse. By the time a child arrives at camp, the staff will feel as if they already know that new camper. This preparation is immediately beneficial to the first-time camper from the moment he or she steps off the bus and is warmly and personally greeted.

The first day of camp is Orientation Day it is a special day when all New campers get an in-depth tour of Swift Nature Camp. This includes a visit to the Health Center, the Mail Box, and each activity area. Every activity is introduced with a discussion about the importance of safety and the basic safety information for that activity.

The goal of the staff is to promote a caring, nurturing friendship with the children. The first day campers write a Respect List for all to agree to and sign, and each night will end with a bedtime story. The cabin is the place where community begins. First time campers are gently brought into a sense of connection and community with others who begin on equal footing.

One of the things that makes Discovery Camp, so special forFirst Time Campers is it’s well rounded variety of camp activities. During morning activities campers are invited to instruction at two activity areas. These activities include Swimming, Canoeing, Nature Center, Arts and Crafts, Archery, and more. Campers are encouraged to try new and different activities, giving each of them the opportunity to discover and explore what activities he or she might enjoy and eventually excel in. This is always done as a challenge by choice. In the afternoon, campers make their choice from the daily activity board.

Swift Nature Camp aims to encourage each child to learn independence in a safe, age appropriate environment. The twelve day first-timer program is set up to run the optimum length of time for a first time camper to leave homesickness behind and gain a comfortable sense of autonomy. For many of these campers the greatest first lesson camp teaches them is that they can leave home, return days later and find out that very few things will have changed, especially their parents’ love for them.

The directors of Swift Nature Camp think it’s important that parents feel confident their child’s first time away from home is in a safe, nurturing and secure environment. As a part of the Discovery Camp’s first timer program, parents are encouraged to visit and call about the progress of their child.

Barry, South Wales: Ancient History: Part 3

Monday, March 1st, 2010

Barry Castle was owned by William de Barri in the twelfth century, but it was raized to the ground by Llewellyn Bren in 1316. Many believe that the Cavaliers rebuilt and that the Roundheads destroyed it again. Whatever is true, it was never rebuilt again after that.

The Norman invaders were thoroughly detested by the local people and they had to build large mansions to defend themselves from frequent assaults on them by the people of the valleys and the mountains. During the reign of Henry III, there were 12 castles within six miles of Barry. In Glamorgan, there were 30 castles and in South Wales as a whole there were 150 !

Porthkerry and its church which lies on the wooded hill to the west of it are said to have taken their name from Ceri, who, in turn, is said to have founded a port there, ie ‘Port Ceri’. People say that Ceri ap Caid, the King of Essyllwg, lived in Porthkerry before the Christian era and that his bard, Corvinor, was the first to build a ship with sails and a rudder for the ‘race of Cymru’. Some believe that Ceri was a nephew or grandson of Caractacus (Caradog) and that he took over the leadership of the government in South Wales when Caractacus had to journey to Rome.

John Wesley preached in the Porthkerry Church and sometimes outside in the churchyard too between 1741 and 1743. Today, there are two very old churches still in use in Barry: St. Cadocs Church in Cadoxton and Merthyr Dyfan Church in Merthyr Dyfan. One-hundred-and-fifty years ago, Cadoxton was the largest village in the Barry area: thus, in 1844 the Parliamentary register contained 25 names: 20 from Cadoxton and five from Barry. The one church was dedicated to St. Cadoc, who had been accustomed to spend Lent on Flat Holm and Barry Island. The village (Cadoc’s Town)took its name from the church, which was founded in 800 AD.

Merthyr Dyfan Church, which is situated in the north of Barry, was founded in 600 AD and the name means Dyfan The Martyr. There were two saints of this name. The one travelled to Barry to convert the local people to Christianity and the other lived in the sixth century. He was the son of a Welsh chieftain. His sister was also martyred and the town of Merthyr Tydfil is named in her memory.

The Christian faith grew very quickly in the Vale of Glamorgan and in the middle of the second century, the Prince of Siluria, Llewrwg, became the first king, of any country in the world in all history, to be baptized into the Christian faith. He sent to Rome for more Chritian teachers and was sent two monks named Dyfan and Fagan. Dyfan was martyred near the church and the Fagan was canonized. St. Fagan’s situated between Barry and Cardiff was named after him.

Pediatric Doctors Team-Up With Summer Camps

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

Millions of children go to Summer Youth Camps. Yet before you even commit to find that perfect place for your child experts suggest you make sure it is safe.

The American Academy of Pediatrics along with the American Camp Association created an official policy statement about camper health and Summer Camp responsibilities. Edward Walton, M.D. is lead author of the paper.

the key to this policy is parents need to thoroughly determine whether a camp is right for their child’. Don’t just assume its great because your childs friends are going. One need to assess if it meets their childs mental, emotional and physical well-being, as well as their interests and skills.

Walton says, “camps should provide parents with a complete picture of what their programs involve”. Look at the total package and be sure it is safe an healthy for your child.

Long before camp starts parents need to be talking about homesickness with their child. Parents need to use their resources like with the doctor who does the child’s pre-camp health assessment and fills out the health form.

Parents should also avoid making pre-arranged plans with their children about picking them up if they get homesick. This only gets kids thinking about the way out of camp. Only should parents discuss camp positively, avoid expressing doubts about a child’s ability to avoid homesickness.

With the new guideline, the AAP also recommends that its members — the pediatricians who treat many of America’s children — get involved with camps in their local area to make sure that health policies and standing orders are up-to-date. They can also act as medical backups to the nurses and paramedic-trained camp health officers on site at camps — instead of the local emergency room or urgent care center, which Walton’s study found was the case 75 percent of the time.

The guideline recommends that parents teach their children how to use rescue inhalers or EpiPens, before the kids go to camp. Parents need talk with camp directors about conditions that might require children to use their devices.

“The delay that can occur when another camper or counselor has to run to the camp nurse’s office to grab an inhaler for a child who is having an asthma attack or an EpiPen for a child who has been stung by a bee can have real health consequences,” says Walton.

The new guideline does not give detailed recommendations for camps that serve only children with special medical circumstances, such as cancer, physical disabilities, blindness, deafness or diabetes. But it recommends that camps work with local pediatricians and health professionals to assess children’s fitness to take part in such camps, and establish programs specific to them.

With the every day reality of paying taxes, the moment a consumer can free themselves from it, the more attractive the shopping item becomes. Traveling abroad in the EU, customers will find the VAT a standard addition to any purchased goods. Claiming a refund requires that all consumers pay an items tax (EU-VAT) regardless of international status (this tax will vary in amount country to country), but by law, will be able to process a refund on their total EU-VAT amounts.

Saving all receipts and stopping at customs before leaving an EU country to obtain an export validation stamp is the bulk of work that needs to be completed by the consumer. Once all receipts and stamps are collecting, working with an established company to refund EU-VAT is a simple process.

A number of companies are available for utilization in making the refunded of EU-VAT a simple transaction requiring only that the consumer collect and save all receipts on good purchased in EU countries and visit customs before leaving the EU to collect an export validation stamp.

So, you’ve come home with your purchases, receipts, and customs approved export validation stamp, now what? Reclaiming your paid EU-VAT is simple in the hands of a number of companies who specialize in the red-tape and hassle of requesting refunds.

One company, Premier Tax Free, is partnered with over 75,000 worldwide retailers. With the company’s technical expertise, dealing with international retailers will be free of the red-tape and hassle of tax free shopping for non-EU residents. Receipts, provided by you, are sent back to retailers in the effort of requesting a VAT refund.
